Your Story
She chose
herself first.
There was a woman who was told no so many times, she began to say it to herself.
No to the door that closed. No to the love that left. No to the dream that failed in front of everyone. And when the world grew cruel, when the whispers turned into stones, she did what wounded people do. She made herself smaller. Quieter. Easier to overlook.
Somewhere in those years, she stopped recognizing the woman in the mirror. The weight of everything she carried settled on her body and behind her eyes. She was tired in a way sleep could not fix. She called it just how life is now.
So she studied her pain. She named every wound, counted every loss, replayed every rejection late into the night. She thought that if she understood her problems well enough, she could finally escape them.
But the more she fed them her attention, the more they grew.
Then one ordinary morning, not a dramatic one, she noticed something. What she watched, multiplied. What she fed, survived. And she had been feeding everything except herself.
So she made a decision so small it almost felt silly.
She would love herself today. Not the woman she used to be. Not the woman she hoped to become. This one. The tired one. The one who was still here.
She drank water. She opened a window. She spoke to herself the way she would speak to a friend. She prayed again, even if the prayer was only help. She took a walk, then another. She stopped asking who had hurt her and started asking who she wanted to be.
She did not look back. Looking back had kept her there long enough.
Day by day, step by step, something began to return. Not the old her. Someone truer. Someone who had been waiting under all that weight the whole time.
She did not become someone new.
She became who she had always been.
And every morning, before the world could tell her anything, she made the same quiet choice:
She chose herself first.
Her name, for now, is Becoming.
The song · A letter to myself
Dear Me.
Words by Peyton Rise
Intro
They say experience is the best teacher...
But sometimes the tuition is just too high.
I owe somebody an apology.
And for once, it’s not you.
It’s the one I see in the mirror.
Verse 1
Dear me, I’m sorry for the wreckage and the weight
For every time I forced a move and called it "destiny" or "fate"
I ran a thousand miles an hour, head-first into the wall
Thinking I could build a kingdom while I ignored the Call.
I didn’t check the blueprint, didn’t ask the Architect
Just followed my ambition with no spirit to protect.
I remember nights the Spirit whispered, "Peyton, let it go"
But my ego had the volume up, screaming "get the gold."
I traded peace for progress, or at least that’s what I thought
Now I’m standing in a garden full of lessons dearly bought.
Chorus
I’m sorry to the girl who knew better from the start
For every time I muffled the intuition in my heart.
I walked without the Light, tried to navigate the dark
And every time I fell, I left another jagged mark.
I’m asking for forgiveness for the times I went alone
Forgetting that the steps are ordered from a higher Throne.
Verse 2
Pardon me for doubting what was written in my bones
For seeking out the crowd when I needed to be alone.
I made choices in the boardroom, I made choices in the street
That didn’t align with the rhythm of the heart inside the beat.
I fell flat on my face, yeah, the concrete tasted real
That’s the price you pay for grabbing at a steering wheel
That wasn't yours to hold. I was driving with no sight
Ignoring every "caution" sign and every red light.
I’m sorry I exhausted you, trying to prove a point
To a world that doesn’t care if my spirit’s out of joint.
Bridge
No more "independent" moves if they lead to empty rooms.
No more planting seeds if I know they’ll never bloom.
I’m listening now.
The static is gone.
The intuition is back on.
Outro
I forgive you.
For the "yes" when it should’ve been "no."
For the "stay" when it should’ve been "go."
From now on, we don't move unless He says so.
Mic check... my soul is finally back in the room.
Self-love.
Divine alignment.
Amen.
